Davits are often used for the following reasons:

  • to clear components of a building (such as parapets, cornices, overhangs, or sloped glazing) that are not designed to bear sufficient loads for suspended maintenance
  • to access areas beyond these components which are hard to reach

Unlike outriggers, davits concentrate their operating load into a single roof socket. Each maintenance worker's lifeline should be attached to an independent anchorage on the roof. Currently, all Summit Anchor Co. davits are ground-rigged. They cannot be used to hoist a suspended working platform rigged on the roof. Ground-rigged davits are only tall enough to clear the parapet, making them easier to handle than roof-rigged davits and preferred by window cleaners. Summit Anchor Co. davits have a maximum outreach of 6'-6”.

These ground-rigged, portable davits were installed at the George Washington University School of Business building in Washington, DC to prevent loading on a glass parapet wall.

Product Options:

  • Davits can be used alone or in pairs. Davits are used in pairs when they will be used to raise a suspended powered platform that has been ground-rigged. Davits may also be used singly when supporting one-man rope descents or one-man cages.
  • Davits can be fixed or portable. Fixed davits stay at a single location on a building. Where portable davits are used, davit bases are installed around the perimeter of the building, and a shared davit arm is moved manually to each location when needed.

Advantages of Summit Anchor Co. davits:

  1. All our davit components are completely hot-dipped galvanized after fabrication to resist corrosion.
  2. Our davits have been engineered and tested to comply with current OSHA and ANSI I.14.1 safety standards for fall arrest and suspended maintenance.
  3. Davit bases can also be recessed on areas such as terraces where a clean appearance is desired over noticeable penetrations.
  4. The davit mast can rotate 360º, and the suspension device can roll along the davit boom for best positioning of the platform.
